Duty & Doubt
Duty and Doubt is a Regency-era trilogy based on Jane Austen’s stories and relates to the subtle, ironic undertones in the characterisation of the English nobility. But this series also bears fairytale elements that free the world from purely rational thinking and inspire it with a touch of fantasy and magic.
The main protagonist, Carolena Bloom, is an orphan from the lower classes. During her fight for sheer survival, she experiences a fabulous rise into high English society. She gains experience on the many stages there that help her to assert herself against her opponents, to overcome her doubts about her role and the motives of others, and to follow her destiny. In the process, she makes friends across all classes and discovers her love for a man who is more than he seems to be.

A few months earlier, she escapes the miserable life as a maid on the farm of her greedy uncle. On the dangerous journey to a long-awaited but deceptive independence, she meets extraordinary people. She learns about herbal lore and natureβs magical forces, which she is eager to use, but struggles to find her place in the world. When she finally believes to have found it, she takes her chance but becomes entangled in a lie that assigns her a very unexpected role.

Book 2
You have caused enough of a stir for a year β God knows how I suffered yesterday β and just when everything seems to have come to a happy end: another public disgrace!?

Carolena Bloom, an orphaned young woman from the lower classes, has made herself indispensable to Lady Crosswood, who introduces Carolena to society as her supposed great-niece. But marriage is out of the question: it would be fraud.
But how to avoid admirers while constantly attracting attention? To make matters worse Lady Crosswood promises the future baroness of Brassburg that Carolena will heal her arrogant fiancΓ©, Mr Eden. Him of all people, Carolena has encountered in her past. Does she dare come close to him?
Despite all her reservations, Mr. Eden finds a way into her heart, and Carolena uses all her abilities β including the magical ones she has renounced β to save him, because his illness turns out to not be an ordinary one. However, her secret desire for requited affection might not withstand the harsh reality.
The tormenting question of whether Mr Eden sees through her is finally surpassed by the terrible certainty that her uncle Sam Thorn has tracked her down and wants to destroy everything she has built up.
